Ramtsilo manufactures environmentally friendly bricks that are used in the construction industry, made from plastic waste and specific additives.

The company’s plant in Benoni is South Africa’s first plastic brick manufacturing plant. The organisation’s Kedibone Tsiloane explained how Ramtsilo brought innovation to the industry through its certified plastic brick, while also “blazing a trail for recycling, social responsibility and grassroots empowerment”. She noted, “We wanted to create a solution where, even in 100 years, that plastic will never go back into the environment.”

The judges described Ramtsilo as having a great business model that engages all stakeholders, creates jobs, empowers, and taps into different industries. They noted that the “solution tackles many challenges, including the recycling of non-recyclable plastic”.
